Trump WH wants mass phone surveillance to be permanently warranted

A wide-reaching domestic surveillance program looks set to be back on the cards stateside. The Trump administration has called on US lawmakers to permanently re-authorise it via the National Security Agency.

The request was made in a letter sent to Congress on Thursday, signed by former National Intelligence Director Dan Coats. The spying program falls under a section of the USA Freedom Act, which is set to expire in December.
