Two patients with COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus, on Friday were transported by military plane from Italy’s northern city of Bergamo to Bari in the south.

Footage from the Italian Army Air Force showed two bio-containment beds onboard a military plane that left hard-hit Bergamo, where many hospitals are at capacity and unable to admit new patients.

The Air Force reported having completed 14 similar missions recently, aimed at relocating patients from northern Italy to other locations where intensive care wards have space.

The number of coronavirus deaths in Italy rose by 766 on Friday, bringing the total death toll to 14,681.
