Before the weekend began, AG Jeff Sessions asked 46 career US attorney generals held over from the Obama administration to leave. The official reason was “to ensure a uniform transition” by the new administration.
This mass firing came just after a comment by White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer wherein he told reporters during a press briefing that Trump believes that a shadowy “deep state” is out to get him.
Spicer said: “There are people that burrowed into government during eight years of the last administration and may have believed in that agenda and may continue to seek it.”
Among those suddenly let go just 2 days after Spicer’s comment was US Attorney General Preet Bharara who represented the Southern District of New York. Bharara’s former jurisdiction included Manhattan where Trump Tower is located.
