Camps full of homeless take over L.A. in ‘unprecedented crisis’

On May 29 city officials enacted a law, allowing the homeless people to keep their belongings, as long as the items aren’t bulky or hazardous. As the piles of garbage grow, so does the number of rats, which raises concerns about the return of the flea-born disease typhus. The disease made headlines last October, after at least nine people were diagnosed with it. Since then, local authorities made efforts to clean up the city. However, according to estimates, it could take around 90 days to remove cleanse the streets.
